About Soaps & Such – Behind the Craft
Hi! My name is Dodge, originally from Texas, I ran to Montana as fast as I could.
I have been making soap for years, creating non-toxic, luxuriousness for the body’s largest organ, the skin.
About the Soap Making Process
Small-batch soap crafted from organic olive oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, and castor oil, scented with non-toxic essential oils.
Each bar comes in a “Soap Sock”—a soft flannel drawstring bag that doubles as a washcloth and helps your soap last longer. Wash your heinie, hang it up, and enjoy every last bit. When the bar’s gone, you’re left with a handmade bag to stash your goodies—no useless packaging.
Hot-Process Soapmaking
1. Weighing & Melting the Fats
I start by carefully weighing my fats—because soapmaking = chemistry.
Then I melt everything down until smooth and ready.
2. Adding Water & Lye
Water and lye are measured precisely and added to the melted fats.
This is where the real transformation begins.
3. Saponification (the magic word)
I use an immersion blender to fully combine everything.
“Saponify” just means all the fats are properly mixed with the lye—no slackers.
4. Hot-Process Cooking
The mixture is cooked to remove excess water (that’s the “hot-process” part).
It thickens into that rich, mashed-potato-like consistency
5. Molding & Finishing
Once it’s just right, I transfer it into molds and let it cool.
Scents are added after cooling for the best results.
6. Curing & Cutting
The soap cures for about 24 hours before cutting.
I built my own cutter, so each bar has a little personality.
The Final Bar
I aim for 4 oz… but let’s be honest, they usually land in the 4–5 oz range.
